Day 1

Arrival in Tanzania

Arrive in Tanzania and transfer to your hotel in Moshi. Spend the day relaxing and preparing for your climb. Meet your guide for a briefing and equipment check. Overnight accommodation in Moshi.

Day 2

Machame Gate (1,790m) to Machame Camp (3,010m)

After breakfast, drive from Moshi to Machame Gate. Begin your trek through the lush rain forest, following a winding trail up a ridge to Machame Camp. Enjoy your first night camping amidst the vibrant rainforest.

Distance: 11 km (7 miles)

Day 3

Machame Camp (3,010m) to Shira Camp (3,845m)

Leave the rain forest behind as you ascend a steep ridge into heath and moorland. Cross a river gorge and continue onto the Shira Plateau, arriving at Shira Camp with expansive views of the surrounding landscapes.

Elevation: 3,010m to 3,845m (9,350 ft to 12,500 ft)

Distance: 5 km (3 miles)

Hiking Time: 4-6 hours

Day 4

Shira Camp (3,845m) to Barranco Camp (3,960m)

Ascend through the alpine desert to the impressive Lava Tower. Enjoy stunning views and then descend through the unique Senecio Forest to Barranco Camp. This acclimatization day is crucial for preparing for the summit.

Elevation: 3,845m to 4,640m (12,500 ft to 15,190 ft) at Lava Tower, then descend to 3,960m (13,044 ft) at Barranco Camp

Distance: 10 km (6 miles) total

Hiking Time: 6-8 hours

Day 5

Barranco Camp (3,960m) to Barafu Camp (4,640m)

Descend into the Great Barranco, then climb the Great Barranco Wall to traverse the rugged terrain. Pass under the Heim and Kersten glaciers and reach the Karanga Valley for fresh water before continuing to Barafu Camp, your base for the summit attempt.

Distance: 8 km (5.3 miles)

Day 6

Barafu Camp (4,640m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) & Descend to Millennium Camp (3,790m)

Start your summit bid around midnight. Ascend through the cold and dark to reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, in time for sunrise. After celebrating, descend to Millennium Camp for a well-earned rest.

Elevation: 4,640m to 5,895m (15,331 ft to 19,341 ft) to Uhuru Peak, then descend to 3,790m (12,434 ft) at Millennium Camp

Distance: 17 km (10.5 miles) total

Hiking Time: 11-14 hours

Day 7

Millennium Camp (3,790m) to Mweka Gate (1,630m)

Descend from Millennium Camp through the lush rain forest to Mweka Gate, where you will receive your summit certificate. Continue to Mweka Village where a vehicle will transfer you back to Moshi for your final evening in Tanzania.
