Dar es Saalam Tour Itinerary
Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park
You'll depart at 5:30 am from Dar es Salaam via Morogoro and Chalinze with a picnic lunch pack. Continue with the drive to Mikumi and after 5 or 6 hours, you will come across several animals that may include lions, elands, hartebeest, buffalos, wildebeest, giraffes, zebras, elephants, wild dogs and many species of birds. Proceeding with a game drive viewing at Mikumi National Park, you will see multiple species of animals and birds. Due to its savannah plain, animals in Mikumi are easily accessed and it takes only 4 to 5 hours to finish a game. Drive to Bastian Camp for accommodation on a full board basis.
After a delightful breakfast, we will begin our day with a visit to a local Maasai village around 9:00 AM. Here, you’ll immerse yourself in the vibrant Maasai culture, learning about their traditions and way of life. Following this cultural experience, we will embark on a scenic drive to Nyerere National Park, which will take approximately 7 to 8 hours. Along the way, you will enjoy a picnic lunch amidst the stunning landscapes, as we traverse some of Tanzania's most untouched and hidden gems. As we make our way to the park, be prepared to be amazed by the breathtaking views and diverse ecosystems that you encounter. Upon arrival, you will settle in for dinner and spend the night at African Safari Camp, where you can relax and reflect on the day's adventures.
Today is dedicated to an exciting game viewing adventure in Nyerere National Park. Throughout the day, you’ll have the opportunity to observe a diverse array of wildlife, including the elusive wild dogs, which are rarely spotted in other parks. As you explore, keep an eye out for sable antelopes, black rhinoceroses, Nile crocodiles, hippos along the banks of the Rufiji River, as well as Cape buffalo, hartebeests, and elands. Your picnic lunch and refreshments will be served amidst the wilderness, allowing you to soak in the natural beauty surrounding you. In the evening, prepare for a thrilling boat safari lasting 2 to 3 hours on the Rufiji River. This excursion is not only a chance to see wildlife but also a fantastic opportunity for bird enthusiasts, as Nyerere National Park—formerly known as Selous Game Reserve—boasts over 350 bird species. Witness these birds congregating in large numbers along the riverbanks, easily spotted in the open environment. Additionally, for those seeking a bit of adventure, you might want to test your skills fishing for the ferocious tiger fish or hefty catfish that inhabit these waters. After a day filled with unforgettable experiences, return to camp for dinner and a restful overnight stay, accompanied by the gentle sounds of the camp.
Begin your day with an early breakfast at the camp before embarking on a breathtaking sunrise bush walk. This unique experience allows you to connect deeply with nature, focusing on the smaller species and the intricacies of the bush. The walking safari, lasting about 2 to 3 hours, offers an unforgettable opportunity to explore the vast and wild landscape on foot. Typically, these walks set out between 6:00 AM and 6:30 AM, commencing with a warm cup of tea and some delicious homemade biscuits or doughnuts to fuel your adventure. After your invigorating walk, we will drive back to Dar es Salaam. For those with an extended itinerary, there’s also the option to take a scenic boat ride to Zanzibar.
